Here’s a song that opens up with the rhythms of Carnaval and quickly morphs into a danceable Merengue with a message full of love. “Locura” (Craziness) is a song in the voice of Newyorican Jessica Medina, composed by the award winning composer Alex Cuba, with musical arrangements and production by Janina Rosado (of Juan Luis Guerra’s 440).
“Locura,” which is part of her upcoming EP entitled ROSA, speaks about that early period of being in love when nothing can darken one’s outlook. It celebrates love from the point of view of a woman.
Jessica Medina was born in New York to a Dominican mother and Puerto Rican father and raised amidst musical notes. She studied jazz and rights at Hunter College in New York City, and while she was influenced from a very young age by Merengue, and especially by that of the 80’s, Medina modernizes her music by offering bilingual lyrics that attract a new generation of Latinos raised in the United States.
The song is on most streaming platforms and can be downloaded here.
