Here’s something you don’t hear every day – an album that blends horn pieces by the classical master Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with traditional Cuban music. It’s a proposition by horn player Sarah Willis, recorded this past January in Havana, Cuba, that, between other endeavors, intends to fund the purchase of instruments for the Havana Lyceum Orchestra.
Willis is a British French horn player who is both a salsa dancer and a permanent musician of the Berlin Philharmonic. With a group of Cuban musicians, she developed this album, entitled MOZART Y MAMBO.
MOZART Y MAMBO can now be streamed from most digital platforms, but if you care to support Willis’s cause, it can also be purchased from her website.
Enjoy the song Rondo alla Mambo! in the video posted below. Inspired by Mozart, the song was written by Joshua Davis and Yuniet Lombida Prieto and performed by Sarah Willis and the Havana Lyceum Orchestra.
