La Sonora Dinamita, Louie Cruz Beltran, more, at Dia de los Muertos at 24th Street Theatre
Cumbia legend La Sonora Dinamita will headline the 24th Street Theatre’s 13th annual Dia de los Muertos block party on Saturday, Nov. 2. Entertainment on two stages will also include master conguero, bandleader, and vocalist Louie Crúz Beltran; seven-piece juggernaut Tommy SpaSe and the Alchemists; Aztec dance from Huitzilopochtli; music from Son Jarochicano Los Cambalache; and more. Special guest Raul Pacheco and The Immaculate Conception will perform two intimate sets on 24th Street Theatre’s indoor stage.
There will be homemade tamales, face painting, craft booths, and a graveyard where families can make their own altars for their departed loved ones. The evening will kick off at 5:45 p.m. with a procession led by ceremonial dancers Los Chinelos, following by the event at the theater that will continue until 10:30 pm.
Thanks to additional support provided by Aeromexico, patrons can purchase $5 raffle tickets at the event to enter to win two round trip tickets to anywhere Aeromexico flies (restrictions apply). Other raffle prizes include tickets to Universal Studios and a quinceñera dress by April Black Diamond’s of downtown LA.
Presented in partnership with Los Angeles City Council members Marqueece Harris-Dawson (CD8) and Gil Cedillo (CD1) along with State Assembly member Reggie Jones-Sawyer Sr. (CA-59), this year’s festival will again encompass Hoover Street from 23rd to 25th Streets in addition to its original location on 24th Street between Hoover and Magnolia.
