Cuba Swift to add Salsa to SPARC’s summer party
South Pasadena will be holding its “Kickoff to Summer Dance Party” this Saturday, June 16, and Cuba Swift will put everyone to dance.
The event is a fundraiser for the non-profit South Pasadena Arts Council (SPARC). It will be held from 6:30 pm to 10 pm at the War Memorial Building, also including music selections by DJ Black Rabbit, a buffet dinner and drinks, and a raffle. Cuba Swift, who many of us know for her dance routines mixing Salsa with hip-hop and reggaetón, will be inviting those in attendance to learn the steps and join her on the dance floor.
DJ Black Rabbit, aka Ray Brown, will be spinning a wide mix of music synched to video projections. “We’re going to do something a little different,” Brown said. He plans to provide a mix of funk, soul, and rock classics from different decades, while projecting the original music video associated with each song or a version of it with custom edits. “It’ll add another dimension to the party,” he promised.
The admission price will include food provided by Mama’s Brick Oven Pizza & Pasta, and one drink (beer or wine) voucher per person (a cash bar will be available for additional drinks). Raffle items have been supplied by Old Focals Eyeware, Dual Crossroads, Hotbox, Jasleen’s, Mars, Rue De Memo, Camille’s, Nexusplex, and other local businesses.
The money gathered will benefit SPARC’s public art, arts events, and educational and outreach arts programs. Tickets are $40 per adult or $75 per couple, available at the SPARC website or at the door.
The War Memorial Building is located at 435 Fair Oaks Ave., South Pasadena, CA 91030.
